Fire Investigation / K9 Unit
The unit investigates the origin and cause of fires in municipalities where the state is the Local Enforcing Agency (LEA), within state-owned or operated property and facilities, at large scale, or high-profile incidents, and wherever local or county investigators request assistance with fire investigations. The unit also employs Ignitable Liquid Detection K-9s that are available for use in fire investigations and evidence sampling. Additionally, this unit investigates firefighter serious injuries or line-of-duty deaths (LODD’s) and provides information and guidance to fire departments upon suffering a LODD.
The unit also provides training, lectures and demonstrations regarding various aspects of fire investigation and K-9 use to law enforcement and fire service personnel as well as to the general public.
