EWING — In recognition of National Women’s Health Week, New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance Acting Commissioner Marlene Caride this week hosted a discussion at HomeFront Family Campus in Ewing about the importance of health coverage and the link between the health and wellbeing of women, who are often the heads of households, and the success of their families.

The discussion included women residing at the facility as well as clients living off campus and attending workforce readiness classes at the center. Acting Commissioner Caride was joined at the healthcare forum by representatives from the Department of Human Services and HomeFront.

“A priority of the Murphy Administration is to ensure that New Jerseyans are educated about health coverage and have access to quality healthcare. National Women’s Health Week is a fitting time to discuss health coverage options and to remind women of the importance of their health and wellbeing to their entire families,” said Acting Commissioner Caride. “I was inspired by the women who took part in our discussion and pleased the department could serve as a resource for families at HomeFront working toward the next phase in their lives.”

“Ensuring women have affordable health care coverage is a must if we’re going to promote healthy living here in New Jersey and position our families to succeed. The Murphy administration is committed to quality health care for women and working with organizations such as Homefront to help New Jersey families thrive, so this discussion was another important step,” said New Jersey Department of Human Services Commissioner Carole Johnson. “We are pleased to partner with Department of Banking and Insurance in educating New Jerseyans about coverage through NJFamilyCare and the Health Insurance Marketplace.”

Since its inception 25 years ago, HomeFront has worked to break the cycle of poverty and end homelessness by serving thousands of Mercer County families. In the past year, more than 1,200 volunteers joined staff in serving 14,000 heads of households who came to HomeFront for assistance.

Prior to the roundtable discussion, Acting Commissioner Caride joined representatives from the Department of Human Services and HomeFront on a tour of the Family Campus. HomeFront’s 42,000-square-foot Family Preservation Center on the Family Campus in Ewing Township provides transitional housing to 38 families. Services for families include on-site access to childcare, education, job skills training, healthcare and other services. The Center, a decommissioned Navy training station, received a $6 million renovation and opened in 2015.
