CHRISTIE ADMINISTRATION TO HELP BUILD, REPAIR OR REPLACE ACCESSIBILITY RAMPS DAMAGED IN SUPERSTORM SANDY
Funding made available through Social Services Block Grant
Trenton 鈥� The Christie Administration today announced the availability of funds for the repair, replacement or installation of modular accessibility ramps for individuals with disabilities whose primary homes were impacted by Superstorm Sandy. The monies are being made available through a $2.89 million federal Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) administered by the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS).聽鈥淎t this point in the recovery process, many homeowners with storm damage have discovered that certain losses were not covered by flood or house insurance, including destruction to accessibility ramps,鈥� said Human Services Commissioner Jennifer Velez. 鈥淔or individuals with disabilities and their families, these ramps are critical factors in whether they can move back home 鈥� even if all other repairs have been made.鈥�
Modular ramps 鈥� which are movable 鈥� can cost several thousands of dollars depending on the configuration. The Americans with Disabilities Act requires that they be 36 inches wide, have a load carrying capacity of 100 pounds per square foot and incline at a ratio of no more than one inch per foot.
鈥淭he great thing about modular ramps is their portability. Families that have been displaced can install it at their temporary housing and take it with them when they move home,鈥� Commissioner Velez said. 鈥淗omeowners that have to raise their house in flood zones will be able to change the ramp configuration with new sections or components.鈥�
DHS has issued a聽聽and Request for Proposals (RFP) from qualified vendors. In order to be eligible for consideration, responders must be duly registered to conduct business within the 星空无限传媒app, demonstrate the ability to comply with the terms and conditions of the department鈥檚 contracting rules and regulations.
