TRENTON 鈥 Department of Human Services Commissioner Jennifer Velez today helped serve Thanksgiving lunches to hundreds of people during a visit to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK)As part of the Christie Administration鈥檚 鈥淪eason of Service鈥 campaign, Velez dished out hot meals to food insecure people who depend on TASK for nourishment. Other members of the Governor鈥檚 Cabinet plan to visit soup kitchens and food pantries throughout the state during the holiday season to highlight the need for donations and volunteers.

鈥淎s many families prepare to gather for a big holiday meal, it鈥檚 important to remember that there are also people who worry almost every day not knowing where their next meal will come from,鈥 said Commissioner Velez. 鈥淚 am grateful to the TASK family of volunteers and donors who make it possible for so many people to know that they can eat a nutritious meal here every day.鈥

TASK provides more than 3,000 free meals per week to people in need in the Trenton area. An average lunch at TASK needs about 12 volunteers to serve about 600 people.

In addition to the hot dinners TASK serves at its Escher Street location for the Thanksgiving holiday, each year it distributes Thanksgiving baskets to over 60 families.
TASK is a private, non-sectarian, charitable organization that depends almost entirely on the help of volunteers and financial support from individuals, churches, local businesses and community organizations.

TASK also provides a wide array of social, community, and health services to encourage self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life of its patrons.
