MEDIA RELEASE MVC Encourages Customers to Utilize Online Services “Last year, more than 1.5 million people entered an agency simply to renew their vehicle registration, when they could have done it from home,” noted MVC Chairman and Chief Administrator Martinez. “That equals more than 250,000 hours spent on transactions that could have been completed with just a few clicks on our website.” Services available online include vehicle registration, paying restoration or surcharge fees, changing your address and scheduling a road test. Additionally, many New Jerseyans are eligible to renew the driver’s licenses by mail through the Skip the Trip program. “Many residents are unaware how simple it is to renew your license or vehicle registration without ever setting foot in an agency,” Martinez added. “We are working hard to spread the word about the 20-plus services residents can complete from the comfort of their homes.” Although many customers will receive a Skip the Trip notice, there are some instances where mail renewal is not permitted. Customers with a Commercial Driver License (CDL), Graduated Driver License (GDL), Temporary Visa Restriction (TVR), interlock device, boat license or suspension are not eligible for mail renewal and must visit an agency. Additionally, in order to renew a vehicle registration online, customers will need to refer to a renewal form that is mailed out three months in advance of their expiration date.
