Trooper Rescues Man From Burning House
Hainesport Township, N.J. - On Saturday, May 31, 2014, Trooper Brian Travinski, of the Bordentown
Barracks, risked life and limb to rescue a sleeping man from the second floor of a burning house in Hainesport Township.
Trooper Travinski was dispatched to the report of a structure fire in the area of 404 Washington Street at 7:57 a.m.
When he arrived at the location, he observed smoke coming from the second floor of the boarded-up, vacant house.
After checking the front door and discovering it was locked, Trooper Travinski did a perimeter check of the house.
While conducting the check, he noticed a broken window that led him to believe that someone was possibly inside. Using a
halligan tool, which is used to assist in making emergency entries into homes and cars, Trooper Travinski forced his way
through the front door.
When he entered, he could see flames in the area surrounding the fireplace. He then searched the entire first floor as
smoke rose to the level of his waist. Once he made it upstairs, he discovered Eric Zeppenfeld, 33, of Hainesport
Township, sleeping on the floor. After waking him up, he helped Zeppenfeld out of the house and immediately went back
inside to search for other people.
Hainesport Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. After a brief investigation,
Zeppenfeld was arrested for Criminal Mischief and Criminal Trespass. He was lodged in the Burlington County
Jail in lieu of $5000 bail with no 10% option.
All charges are mere accusations and the suspect is considered innocent until proven guilty.
