Troopers Apprehend Jewelry Store Robbers
NEWARK, N.J. -Shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday August 6th, the Golden Palace Jewelry store in Orange N.J. was robbed by three males wearing stockings as masks and brandishing two handguns. After the robbery, the thieves fled the scene in an older model Ford pick-up truck. The Orange Police Department broadcast this info to surrounding law enforcement agencies via the State Police Emergency Network (SPEN).
Troopers assigned to the NJSP Metro North Unit, who are involved in conducting strategic investigations driven by crime analysis, responded to the area after hearing the alert. Troopers located the vehicle and conducted a high risk motor vehicle stop at the corner of South Orange and Speedway Avenues in Newark. The three occupants of the vehicle, all Newark men, were taken into custody without incident.
From the vehicle, Troopers recovered two handguns, the masks made from stockings, and jewelry stolen from the store. The three suspects (listed below) were charged by the State Police with: Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Weapons for Unlawful Purposes, Prohibited Weapons and Devices, and Certain Persons Not To Have Weapons (a charge applied when people have prior criminal convictions).

After being processed by the State Police, the three men were transferred to the custody of the Orange Police Department.
