Fairfield Township, Cumberland County, N.J. - Detectives from the New Jersey State Police working with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, charged a Fairfield Township woman with murder in the death of her father. Her boyfriend was charged for his involvement in the burial of the body.

Kandice Dixey, 32, and her boyfriend Norman Kacewich, 24, both of Fairfield Township, have been arrested in Maryland and charged with murder and other related charges in the death of her father, Michael Dixey, 61.

On October 3, 2013, relatives of Michael Dixey arrived at the State Police Station in Port Norris to report him missing. Troopers from the Port Norris Station, detectives from the Troop A Criminal Investigation Office, Major Crime Unit, Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Missing Person Unit and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into Dixey’s disappearance.

As the investigation progressed, detectives learned that Kandice Dixey and Norman Kacewich had both traveled to Elkton, Maryland. On Tuesday, October 8, Detectives from the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit and the US Marshal’s Task Force located and arrested the suspects on charges of theft related to use of Michael Dixey’s credit card in New Jersey.

On Wednesday, October 9, New Jersey State Police detectives along with the New Jersey State Police K-9 Unit examined a suspected burial site in a wooded area in the 400 block of Clarks Pond Road, not far from Dixey’s residence. During the excavation, detectives located a body in a shallow grave. The body is possibly that of Michael Dixey, but post mortem tests may lead to a confirmed identity. The cause and manner of death are pending the medical examiner’s report from yesterday’s autopsy.

Kandice Dixey was charged with Murder (1st degree), Desecration of Human Remains (2nd degree), and Hindering Apprehension (3rd degree). Norman Kacewich was charged with Desecration of Human Remains and Hindering Apprehension. Bail was set at $300,000 for Dixey and $25,000 for Kacewich. They were both transported to the Cecil County Detention Center in Maryland pending extradition hearings.

Charges are merely accusations and the suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
