Troopers Promote Homeland Security 'On the Waterfront'

Staff Sergeant Dave LabriolaStaff Sergeant Dave Labriola with the New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau installs a new sign at the Alloway Creek boat ramp, which runs close to the Salem Nuclear Plant. Troopers have 300 of these aluminum signs promoting the Maritime Security Initiative (MSI), a program for collecting crime tips and reports of suspicious activity from the maritime community. Signs are being placed at boat ramps, docks, and waterfront businesses around the state. The MSI is a campaign asking the thousands of professional and recreational boaters, along with other visitors to our waterfronts, to be the eyes and ears of law enforcement by reporting suspicious activity. The signs advertise a toll-free tip line and website through which people can contact the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness at the Regional Operations Intelligence Center. Tips have produced significant arrests of wanted persons and sex offenders, solved thefts and led to terrorism investigations. The MSI website can be reached through the State Police web address of http://www.njsp.org/maritime/index.html, and the tip line is 1-866-4-SAFE-NJ.
