State Police Arrest 5, Seize $60,000 in Narcotics
West Trenton, N.J. – As a result of investigations conducted in partnership with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Police Department, the New Jersey State Police Street Gang North Unit executed search warrants at two Newark locations on 12/16/11. Five people were arrested on various narcotics related criminal charges including the possession and distribution of heroin, crack cocaine, and marijuana.
Recovered from the two South 19th Street homes were more than 6150 decks (doses) of heroin, 30 grams of marijuana, and 30 grams of crack cocaine. In addition to the narcotics, cash and ammunition of various calibers were seized. The total street value of the seized drugs exceeds $63,000.
As the Street Gang North Unit executed the search warrant at the 722 South 19th Street address, suspect Kenny Jackson fled out a rear entrance and was apprehended by troopers after a foot pursuit. He sustained a leg injury, but refused medical treatment at the scene from the Newark EMS. He was later transported to University Hospital for medical treatment. One of the troopers who apprehended Jackson sustained knee and hand injuries.
The search warrants were executed with the assistance of the New Jersey State Police TEAMS Unit, the K-9 Unit, and the Strategic Investigations Unit, as well as the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Police Department.
Tashonda Hutson was charged and released on her own recognizance, while the remaining four individuals were lodged in the Newark Municipal Jail without bail.
