Statement Regarding Newark Incident
Newark, N.J. - At approximately 6:00 a.m. this morning, police responded to a report of a stolen car at
the Alamo car rental company on Rt. 1&9. The suspect driver fled the scene in a silver Monte Carlo that was located
by a State Police detective nearby. That detective attempted to apprehend the driver and was injured in that
encounter, which involved a collision between the trooper’s car and the Monte Carlo. The detective was taken to
UMDNJ to be treated for several injuries.
The suspect driver fled that scene and abandoned the Monte Carlo near South 11th Street and 9th Avenue in Newark. He remains at large.
The Attorney General’s Shooting Response Team is investigating the incident. More information will be issued when possible.
