This endorsement authorizes the holder to teach Other World Languages in all public schools.
Subject Matter Preparation
Credit Requirements
A minimum of 30 semester-hour credits in a coherent sequence in the subject field of Other World Languages. At least 12 of the 30 semester-hour credits must be at the advanced level of study (junior, senior or graduate level).
Coursework Examples
Other World Language:
- Culture
- Grammar
- History
- Language
- Literature
The final determination as to which courses will be counted towards the subject matter is based on content standards found in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
Courses in pedagogy or education are not acceptable.
Coursework Requirement
A minimum of three semester-hour credits in second language acquisition theory and related methodologies offered by an accredited college or university within 12 months of initial assignment. No Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) or standard world languages certificate shall be issued until this requirement is completed.
Testing Requirement
You must possess linguistic competency by scoring a minimum of “Advanced Low” on the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) in Other World Languages.
