/Medicaid provides health care coverage for pregnant women who live in New Jersey and who are either U.S. Citizens or . To qualify for NJ FamilyCare, the total family income must be at or below 205% of the Federal Poverty Level. For a family of 4, that is $5,493 a month (2025 ).

Pregnant women who do not qualify for NJ FamilyCare

There are other health care coverage programs for pregnant women who do not qualify for NJ FamilyCare:

  • GetCoveredNJ, New Jersey’s Health Insurance Marketplace. Must be U.S. Citizen or Qualified Immigrant.
  • covers emergency services, including labor and delivery, for New Jersey residents age 19 and older who do not qualify for NJ FamilyCare because they do not meet the U.S. Citizenship or immigration requirement.
  • covers prenatal (pregnancy) and contraceptive (family planning) care in clinics, hospitals, Federally Qualified Health Centers, and family planning centers. Must meet NJ FamilyCare guidelines except for U.S. Citizenship or immigration requirement.
  • Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) have sliding fee scales for a wide range of services.
  • Charity Care helps with hospital bills.
