Evesham Township, N.J. –Detectives Timothy Long and Phil Conza, along with officers from Evesham Police Department, arrested a male juvenile who was spotted with a handgun on the grounds of Van Zant Elementary School.
On Monday, December 7, at 3:49 p.m., a family member of Detective Timothy Long was at Van Zant Elementary School when she observed an older boy holding a sliver gun while on school property.Â
Detectives Long and Parker, who were working a non-uniformed patrol on the New Jersey Turnpike, immediately responded to the school. When the detectives arrived, Evesham Police Department was on scene actively searching for the suspect as a result of a 911 call.Â
Based on several witness descriptions, State Police detectives located the suspect on the school basketball court and arrested him without incident.Investigators recovered a silver handgun after searching the suspect incident to arrest.
Evesham Police immediately established a perimeter and conducted a thorough search of the area in order to determine there were no additional threats.
After close inspection, investigators determined the weapon to be a steel replica handgun.The 14-year-old suspect was charged by Evesham Police and taken to a psychiatric facility for evaluation.
