Overview

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Bureau of Safety Improvement Programs (BSIP) is part of the Division of Safety Programs and Transportation Data under the Assistant Commissioner for Statewide Planning, Safety, and Capital Investment.

The BSIP administers and manages New Jersey鈥檚 Highway Safety Improvement Programs (HSIP) and funding, using a data-driven approach to improve roadway safety for all New Jerseyans. The BSIP leads planning efforts, supports the design and construction of infrastructure projects in active coordination with internal and external stakeholders, and oversees non-infrastructure projects and programs to assist in reducing fatalities and serious injuries for everyone using New Jersey鈥檚 roads.

Vision of Zero Fatalities by 2040
Since 2013, Fatalities and Serious Injuries on New Jersey roads have been increasing. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is committed to reversing this trend through the adoption of the national Toward Zero Deaths strategy using the Safe System Approach. New Jersey鈥檚 vision to achieve Zero Fatalities by 2040 and is actively working toward this goal.
